Site Director Position
Posted 1-20-2010
Position: Site Director
Salary: Commensurate with Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Location: Baltimore, MD
Sector: Non-profit
Type: Full-time
Area of focus: Mentoring, Urban Education, Children and Youth
The Incentive Mentoring Program uses a comprehensive personal approach that fosters the transformation of high school students who are not meeting minimum academic requirements and facing significant psychosocial challenges, into self-motivated, resourceful, and socially aware leaders committed to a higher purpose.
Although only 38.5% of Baltimore City children will receive a high school diploma on time, IMP students have a 100% graduation and 100% college acceptance rate. Students struggling to graduate from high school are now attending colleges such as Bowdoin, Purdue, Frostburg State, and University of Maryland Eastern Shore. These triumphant individuals, equipped with both education and passion, will create a powerful force of social change.
Currently, IMP’s first cohort of 15 students is in their junior year of college and the second cohort, comprised of 16 students is in their senior year of high school. In March 2010, IMP will enroll a third cohort. Each student has an IMP Family of volunteers who work to empower the student to find creative and customized solutions to the challenges they face. IMP College Families have 1-2 mentors, IMP High School Families have 7-10 mentors and each family is managed by a Head of Household. Program Directors run committees, which provide resources for the family and logistical support for the program. These committees include Academics, College Preparation, SAT Preparation, Life Skills, Community Service, Team Building, Volunteer Recruitment, Technology, and Health and Social Services.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Incentive Mentoring Program Site Director will oversee 300+ volunteers including Program Directors and Heads of Household to coordinate tutoring, mentoring and social support services for Baltimore’s most at risk youth attending Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. They will organize and manage activities including tutoring, college planning, community service projects, team building activities and social gatherings.
This position has a minimum two-year commitment to provide continuity for our third cohort as they progress through high school. The site director will be available to students and their families to offer support in times of crisis (e.g. a parent losing a job, a domestic dispute, passing of a family member, etc). The physical and psychological demands of the position can be unpredictable, and the site director must be consistently available to students outside of normal school hours.
